Town Earns Walk Friendly Community Designation

by | Jun 23, 2022

The Town of Davidson is pleased to announce its redesignation as a Bronze-level Walk Friendly Community (WFC) for the eleventh straight year.

Dan Gelinne, Senior Research Associate for the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC), noted, “We are very impressed with all of the progress your community has made in improving pedestrian safety and walkability in the past several years.”

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by Walk Friendly Communities once again this year,” said Town Manager Jamie Justice. “The Board of Commissioners, our advisory boards, and many other partners have all worked collaboratively with town staff to help make streets safer for our residents and improve walkability and mobility options throughout town.”

WFC is a national recognition program developed to encourage cities and towns across the country to develop and support walking environments with an emphasis on safety, mobility, access, and comfort. Managed by the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC), the program distinguishes communities leading the way in walkability and seeks to share their stories to inspire other communities to move toward their own innovative solutions. In the 12 years since the program began, it has recognized 82 cities and towns across 32 States with WFC designations.
