The Fiesta Fundraiser for La Escuelita Bilingual Preschool on June 26 was a great success, raising over $18,000 for the Patrick Braxton-Andrew Scholarship Fund, established in memory of this beloved member of the Davidson community.

The event was held at Osito’s Restaurant in Cornelius, where guests enjoyed delicious Fusion-Latin food. Gary Andrew, Patrick Braxton-Andrew’s father, said that his family wants to support an organization that reflects Patrick’s interests. Patrick loved to travel, particularly enjoying the Hispanic culture in Mexico and Central and South America.

Patrick’s parents, Gary Andrew and Jean Braxton, visited La Escuelita Bilingual Preschool and were impressed with the school and its director, Pat Shaw, a founding board member of the preschool. Shaw has been its director since the school was established in 2014.

La Escuelita, or “little school,” is a bilingual, science-based preschool housed at the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson. With sessions five days a week, the school plays an important role in closing the achievement gap for Spanish-speaking children in the Lake Norman area. Its superior dual-language early childhood education and family programs have been shown to improve outcomes for its graduates. Many children attend the program nearly tuition-free, thanks to sponsorships by local community members.
