Spin with Us – Hearts on Fiber

July 22 @ 3:00 p.m.

208 South Main Street

We love spinning! We also love the company while spinning. So let’s make a group. Bring your spinning wheel, or drop spindle, or whatever you have to spin with and join us. It’s free, it’s relaxing, and it’s a great way to end your week! We welcome spinners of all experience levels and are enthusiastic about refining our technique together! This event is free and occurs every Friday and is usually outside the weather permitting.

[THIS WEEKEND’S SHOWS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO NEXT WEEKEND.]

By Robert O’Hara. Directed by Donna Bradby Barbecue centers around the O’Mallerys, a dysfunctional group of siblings who come together for a park barbeque in order to stage an emergency intervention for their sister Barbara, whose drug habit has gotten out of hand.  However, there are in fact two O’Mallery families, one white and one black.  Each appear in different, yet hilariously similar, scenes that juxtapose to create a provocative dialogue about racial and family politics. Buy tickets.

Noises Off  – Davidson Community Players

July 22 @ 8:00 p.m.

Duke Family Performance Hall

Brimming with slapstick comedy, this delightful farce is complete with slamming doors, on and offstage intrigue, falling trousers, and—of course —flying sardines! A hilarious behind-the-scenes peek at an acting troupe rehearsing and performing a flop called Nothing On. Despite nerves, flubbed lines, missed cues and technical difficulties, they make it through rehearsal and open the show. As time goes by, things deteriorate until pandemonium ensues during a disaster of a performance that threatens the old saying, “The show must go on!”

Advance tickets: Adults $25-29; Senior $23-27; Student (under 21) $15-18

Secret Society of Crafters – Hearts on Fiber

July 27 @ 10:00 a.m.

208 South Main Street

Crafting is more fun with other people, which is why we created the “Secret” Society of Crafters. The title says “secret,” but we’re a not-so-secret, not-so-exclusive group who meets to stitch, craft, crochet, knit, sit and talk. We may or may not talk about knitting, yarn bombing, hand dying, or the latest stitch. We may even talk about world domination. You won’t know unless you come. Connect with crafters in the area, find the motivation to pick up that project again, and benefit from the wisdom of a passionate crafting group. The “Secret” Society of Crafters meets outside the store every Wednesday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. weather permitting. We hope to see you there!

Teen Manga Mashup

July 28 @ 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Davidson Branch Library

Been reading any manga lately? Come share with us what you’re reading, or maybe some of your favorites! We’re not a regular book club. We’re an “UnBook Club!” What’s an Unbook Club, you ask? We don’t all agree to read the same things. (After all, some like shojo more than shonen, or like the mecha genre more than the magical girls type. Some might even like both!) Here we all take turns sharing what we’re currently reading, give and ask for recommendations, and share our love of manga! We play games, make crafts, and hang out. This month we’re making origami! Looking for some manga to read? Check out our catalog and place a hold, or come explore our graphic novel section in the branch. Find a link to our catalog by clicking here.

Information about this Group – The Davidson Teen Manga Mashup meets monthly to discuss manga and graphic novel titles. This program will be provided by Davidson library staff and is recommended for teens ages 12 to 18.
