August 13, 2022

9 am – 12 pm, Rain or Shine, No Pets Please!

Shopping starts at the ringing of the market bell.

Happy National Farmers Market Week! And, as always, this Saturday the Davidson Farmers Market will be loaded full of locally sourced produce, proteins, baked goods and specialty products. How wonderfully great it is to have a farmers market right around the corner from where you live! Remember, farmers markets don’t just happen! And the most important way to make sure they stick around is to get involved. Read below for a message from Amy Diamond, DFM Board President…

Dear DFM shoppers,

I have been away a lot this summer and have missed my mornings at our market. As often as possible, when traveling, I seek out local farmers’ markets. I love to see how they do things and what the vendors have to share and to buy food that is local to that particular place. It’s a great way to engage with the community and to foster even more appreciation for the Davidson Farmers Market.

Our market is so many things. First and foremost, we are a source of the highest quality local food and produce. We are an important income source for over 35 local farmers and bakers and growers and makers. They count on Saturdays and often tell me that our market is a very good one for them. For some people it is a focused shopping trip. They know what they want and are buying food for the week’s meals. Others come for the community- a chance to engage with others and to reconnect. And for some it is an opportunity to give back. DFM is a non-profit market and we turn to the community for support. Sometimes that support comes through actual financial contributions or sponsorships and sometimes it comes through volunteering. Every Saturday a group of green vested folks come out, rain or shine, to set up the tents and tables and help our vendors unload their trucks and then, at noon, to put it all away.

On August 20th, we will be kicking off our Fall Apple Fundraiser. Fresh, mountain grown apples will be sold by the pound and all profits go directly to our operating costs. I hope you will come to the market table and buy some of these delicious varieties of apples.

And that brings me to something else- the fabulous people who serve on the Davidson Farmers Market Board. We are a real mixed bag of skills and experience but we all love the Market and want to see it flourish. And we could use your help. We are looking for new Board members who want to add their skills and passion to DFM. Each Saturday, starting August 20th, Board members will be staffing the Apple Fundraiser Table and would love to tell you more about what we do as board members and to answer your questions about where you could fit in.
