Mooresville Community Children’s Theatre and Community School of Davidson form unique collaboration for “The Lightning Thief – The Percy Jackson Musical”

The Community School of Davidson and the Mooresville Community Children’s Theatre have forged a unique collaboration in presenting a LIVE theatre production of The Lightning Thief – The Percy Jackson Musical. Performances will run from October 6-16 (two weekends) at the Community School of Davidson ArtSpace, 404 Armour Street, Davidson, NC 28036.  Based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan, the show enjoyed a broadway run that closed in January 2020.

The CSD/MCCT production of The Lightning Thief is the first in the Lake Norman area and is directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge with musical direction by Charlene  Thomas, and choreography by Jenna Tyrell and Allison Collins, certified fight choreographer. As part of CSD’s All High School series, the local production features high school and gap year students representing eleven (11) high schools, from the Lake Norman area and surrounding communities. The company features experienced and new actors you might recognize from local/regional theatre, television and movie  productions.

In addition to two weekends of public performances, there will be a special school performance for CSD’s sixth & seventh grades that pairs with their curriculum study around ancient civilizations. Group rates are available for all public performances. Please contact [email protected] for details.

Tickets are $12 general admission in advance; $15 general admissions ticket at the door (if available); and $5 student ticket at the door (if available). Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended as limited at-the-door ticket sales are anticipated.

About the Show

The Lightning Thief – The Percy Jackson Musical written by Joe Tracz, features an original rock music score/lyric by Rob Rokicki. Based on Rick Riordan’s novel Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (2005), this is a story about Percy Jackson, a son of Poseidon, who has newly discovered powers he cannot control, monsters on his trail, and is on a quest to find Zeus’ lightning bolt – all to prevent an epic war between the gods.

About the Community School of Davidson (CSD) & Arts Education – Theatre Program
Community School of Davidson is a public charter school located in Davidson, North Carolina elcomes students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin. CSD believes that every student can and will succeed in ways that reflect his or her own aptitudes and interests. The CSD’s Arts Education program encompasses multiple disciplines: computer arts, dance, music, theatre arts, visual arts and woodworking. The purpose for teaching the arts is to enable students to develop the capacities to create, perform, and respond with understanding, critical judgment, and appreciation of works of art.

About the Mooresville Community Children’s Theatre (MCCT)
The Mooresville Community Children’s Theatre (MCCT) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing theatre, performance, education, production, and viewing experiences for the Mooresville, Lake Norman region, and surrounding communities with an emphasis on including children and young adults ages 6-20. The Mooresville Community Children’s Theatre (MCCT) produced its first performance around 1997 with annual performances through 2009 when MCCT performed its last musical Willy Wonka, Jr. Thankfully, in 2011 community volunteers united loosely to form the MCCT Board of Directors.  This group of eight individuals pioneered the basic business structure of today’s organization. MCCT currently produces 2-3 productions and multiple workshops annually and partners with multiple performing arts programs and organzations.
