Field Hockey Lets Early Lead Slip Away in Loss to VCU
DAVIDSON — The Davidson Wildcats struck first Friday night, but VCU answered in a big way en route to a 5-2 victory at Belk Turf Field.
Davidson controlled the first 15 minutes and led 1-0 after the opening quarter thanks to Charlie Kabelac’s goal at the 6:47 mark. It’s her team-leading fourth goal of the year and came off a penalty corner inserted by Sarah Grace Clifton and received by Caroline Wack.
But the Rams responded with four goals in the second quarter, including goals by Janne Wetzel and Camila Rosenbrok in the first 1:32 of the period, to take control.
The Rams’ lead peaked at 5-1 before Bella Worthington tipped in a Kabelac shot off a penalty corner for her first goal of the season.
