The Ada Jenkins Center: So Many Needs

Our food pantry provides more than food: when we have the inventory to share, we also provide families with toiletries, paper products, and pet foods.

Right now, our toiletry shelves are bare. If you are able to donate full-size shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes, and feminine pads (not tampons or liners), please stop by between 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Our volunteers will be happy to greet you at the food pantry entrance, located at the back of our building!

Do you have a used, small-to-midsize SUV that is in decent shape, but no longer meets your needs? Why not donate it to the Ada Jenkins Center? You could get a sizeable tax deduction, while helping our Homeless Street Outreach team; they assist an average of eight unsheltered people each month, taking them to doctor appointments, to Lydia’s Loft for clothing, and to other places (Division of Motor Vehicles, Social Security Office for identification cards) when they need transportation. We have been using the Ada Jenkins Center passenger van, but that really needs to be dedicated to our LEARN Works after school program.

If you would consider donating a suitable vehicle, please contact our Facilities and Volunteers Manager Josh Kiser. Our Street Outreach team notes that as it is getting colder outside, they are meeting more unsheltered people braving the cold nights. If you can donate full-size blankets, ground tarps, or sleeping bags, we would surely appreciate it! (Contact Ginny McManus for more details.)

LEARN Works also needs three to five volunteers who are willing to volunteer three to four hours/day for one or more days each week, as program assistants. Spanish-language skills are helpful, but not necessary; same with some education experience. Please contact our Education Services Director Leslie Wilson for more information. As we enter the season of Thanksgiving, we also ask that you consider a tax-deductible gift to support our neighbors in need. Click here to donate to the Ada Jenkins Center program of your choice. Thank you for thinking of the families we serve!
