Women’s Volleyball Prepares for Atlantic 10 Championship Run

The Wildcats had a historic 20-win season, and are heading to the A-10 Tournament.

 

DAVIDSON, N.C. – With their best regular season in two decades behind them, the Davidson volleyball team sets their sights on the Atlantic 10 Championship, which begins on Friday, Nov. 18 on the campus of Saint Louis University.

With a 20-9 overall record, the program’s first 20-win season since 2002, and a 14-4 A-10 ledger, the Wildcats have clinched a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed and will await their semifinal match up on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Davidson will meet the winners of the first round match up between #3 Dayton and #6 VCU.

All championship matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available in addition to around-the-clock social media coverage @DavidsonVB on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
WELCOME TO THE LEAGUE
First year member of the Atlantic 10, Loyola Chicago has quickly made a splash in the league, winning the regular season title after going 17-1 in A-10 play and 23-8 overall. The Ramblers’ lone loss in the conference came to Dayton in the second-to-last week of the regular season.

THE BRACKET
Davidson and Loyola Chicago clinched automatic berths into the semifinals as the top-two seeds in the tournament, while the Ramblers will meet the winner of #4 George Washington vs. #5 Saint Louis and the ‘Cats will face #3 Dayton or #6 VCU. Loyola’s semifinal match is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST on Saturday, Nov. 19 while the ‘Cats will take to the court at approximately 3:30 p.m. CST. The final is scheduled for noon central on Sunday, Nov. 20.

ON OUR BLOCK
Davidson’s blocking unit has been one of its brightest spots this season, as the ‘Cats rank 29th in the nation with 2.58 blocks per set as a team. With 263 total stops, the Wildcats are also ranked 26th in team blocks, while senior Anela Davis sits at second and third in the country, respectively, in blocks per set (1.59) and total blocks (149). Three other ‘Cats have 70 blocks or more this season, with Kayla Davis second on the team with 80 stuffs, while Sola Omonije has 79 and Emma Slusser has 70.

GOLDEN SHOVEL
Bella Brady ranks among the top liberos in the country, as the junior sits 15th across Division I women’s volleyball, and first in the Atlantic 10, with 5.24 digs per set and 20th in total digs (534). With eight more digs, Brady will match her sophomore season total, 542 digs, which was good for third most digs in a single season in program history. The Winter Park, Fla. native eclipsed the 1,000th dig mark earlier this season, during a win at Dayton, and is now at 1,292 career digs, cracking into the program’s top-10 all-time list for career digs.

PAYING ATTENTION
This season, the Wildcats have captured 11 total Atlantic 10 weekly honors, with libero Bella Brady leading the way with four Defensive Player of the Week honors. Rookies Emma Slusser (3), Jackie Bardin (1) and Kayla Davis (1) have each garnered Rookie of the Week titles while senior Anela Davis also won two Defensive Player of Week nods.
