LANCASTER, Pa. – The Davidson wrestling team competed at Franklin & Marshall’s Lehman Open on Friday and were led by Bryce Sanderlin, Gavin Henry, and Marc Koch. Henry and Koch both made it into the quarterfinals in their respective weight class, while Sanderlin finished inside the top eight.

Sanderlin, a junior wrestling in the 165-pound class, won his first two matches to get into the Round of 16 before falling via pin to Gaven Bell of Maryland. After that defeat, Sanderlin took down teammate Jaden Hardrick in a close 2-1 decision in the first round of the consolation bracket round of 16. From there, he blanked North Carolina’s Gino Esposito in the first consolation quarterfinal then won by medical forfeit to get into the consolation semifinals. In the semi’s, Sanderlin fell by major decision which put him in the seventh place match, but that match went as a no contest. 

Gavin Henry started off the day hot as he won his opening two matches first by major decision, 8-0, then by fall over North Carolina’s Cade Lautt in nearly three and a half minutes. Henry was later pinned in the quarterfinals by Princeton’s Aidan Conner to end his run at the semifinals.

March Koch also started the day strong with a win in the round of 64 by a 3-0 decision, another victory by decision over Presbyterian’s Michael Ramirez, 8-2, in the round of 16, and he made it into the top-eight with a 4-1 decision over Sacred Heart’s Jon Siemsen. Koch’s run ended there as he fell to Lock Haven’s Ashton Eyler in the quarterfinals.

Davidson will be back in action at home on January 15 against the Bellarmine Knights. The ‘Cats will host this conference showdown in the Duke Family Performance Hall.
