JC Sanner is joining the Davidson baseball staff as director of player development, head coach Rucker Taylor announced Wednesday.

Sanner comes to Davidson having spent last year as a player development associate with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

“We’re excited for JC to join us,” said Taylor. “He’ll complement Coach Bobby Hearn well with the pitchers and will be an asset to our whole program. His experiences in pro ball should benefit us right away.”

Sanner, from Hattiesburg, Miss., also spent 2021 in pro ball, working in player development with the Minnesota Twins organization.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Coach Taylor and the staff for giving me the opportunity to serve at such a prestigious college,” said Sanner. “I look forward to developing tremendous relationships with these young men and helping them achieve their goals. I can’t wait to take on this challenge with this team.”

As a player, Sanner helped Oak Grove High win two state championships before starting his college playing career at Pearl River Community College. A pitcher, he was a two-time All-State selection at PRCC before serving as a weekend starter at Northwestern State. He completed his history degree at William Carey University in 2019, where he was a First Team All-Conference pick.
