BOONE, N.C. / BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team traveled to Campbell for a Southern Conference dual and also participated in the Appalachian Open on Saturday. Tanner Peake took second place in the 157-pound division, Bryce Sanderlin took fourth place, and the Wildcats fell to the Camels, 43-3.

Tanner Peake continued to perform at a high level after he made it to the championship bout in the 157-pound division in Boone. Peake got a first-round victory by pin, won by decision in the quarterfinals, and won via medical disqualification in the semis before dropping the championship bout. In the final, Peake found himself down 3-0 heading into the third period before he made a last-minute push. The Flemington, NJ native got an escape with under 40 seconds left then, he got a takedown in the final 15 seconds to tie the score. Virginia Tech’s Jackson Spire was awarded the win via riding time.

Peake went 3-1 on the day and moved to 8-2 overall on the season.

In the 165-pound weight class, Bryce Sanderlin took fourth place after winning his first two matchups. Sanderlin cruised past Alex Mercado with a 17-0 tech fall then took down UNC’s Marcus Murabito in a 5-2 decision. Sanderlin’s run ended in the semifinals when he was removed due to a medical forfeit.

At Campbell, Jaden Hardrick picked up Davidson’s lone victory. The Dayton, Ohio native defeated Riley Augustine in overtime, 3-1. Saturday’s win put Hardrick at 12-12 overall for the year and 3-1 in conference duals.

The wrestling team will return home for a SoCon showdown with The Citadel next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
