2023 Mayors’ Fitness Challenge: Who will be the Fittest Town?

by | Feb 2, 2023

The Town of Davidson is excited to announce that after great success these past two years, they will join the towns of Cornelius and Huntersville for the third annual Mayors’ Fitness Challenge! Residents of each town will register as one team and try to win the title of Fittest Community.

The 2023 fitness challenge will run 6 weeks, March 12 – April 22. The goal for each town is to have the most active minutes each week. At the end of the 6 weeks, the town with the highest average total will be awarded the Fittest Community trophy.

In previous years, the goal was to complete as many activity/exercise minutes as possible each day and report those minutes at the end of each week. This year, the challenge will run similarly, but there will be other ways to help you and your team gain additional points. Each town will be partnering with health providers to offer additional programming to those in the challenge. These programs will gain you additional points on top of the normal activity points you can receive.

Participants are invited to join all three towns for the March 12 kickoff event at Bailey Road Park in Cornelius, 2:00-4:00 p.m. The event will feature the towns’ fitness program partners who will promote the benefits of being active during and after the challenge. Those who register for the challenge and kickoff event prior to February 28 AND attend the kickoff event will receive a Mayor’s Fitness t-shirt. Participants must attend the kick-off to receive their t-shirt.

To conclude the 2023 Mayors’ Fitness Challenge, the Town of Cornelius will host a 5k race (walk, jog, and/or run) on April 22. Additional points for participants will be tallied, and then the Fittest Community trophy will be awarded.
