The Wildcats were picked at the top of the A-10 preseason poll.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the first time, the Davidson baseball team has been picked to finish atop the Atlantic 10 Conference baseball race, the league announced Tuesday morning.

A year ago, the Wildcats won their first outright regular-season conference title, going 20-4 in league play and finishing with a school-record 43 wins.

The Wildcats totaled 130 points in the 12-team preseason poll, which is voted on by the league’s coaches, and secured five first-place votes. VCU, with four first-place votes, was picked second with 125 points, followed in the top four by Richmond and Saint Louis with 103 points apiece.

The Wildcats return many key contributors this spring, including catcher Michael Carico and pitcher Ryan Feczko, the A-10 Player of the Year and A-10 Rookie of the Year, respectively, as well as all-conference honorees Bennett Flynn (pitcher), Jacob Hinderleider (shortstop) and Ryan Wilson (first base).
