Women’s Basketball Falls to Spiders
RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond shot a red-hot 52 percent over three quarters of play on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Davidson women’s basketball team 75-44 in Atlantic 10 women’s basketball action.
The Spiders controlled the pace of the contest, using two 10-0 runs in the first half to lead by as many as 20, 34-13, before the intermission.
A Suzi-Rose Deegan three-pointer before halftime cut Davidson’s deficit to 13, 38-25, and Maddie Plank opened up the second with another trey to make it a 10-point game.
Richmond responded to the Wildcats’ brief surge with a 7-0 run that bumped its lead back to 13, before scoring 11 of the quarter’s final 14 points to lead 56-34 with 10 minutes to go.
Overall, Davidson shot 14-of-52 (26.9%) from the field and Richmond drained 30 field goals, eight of which came from beyond the arc. Elle Sutphin scored a team-high 10 points, shooting 6-of-6 from the free throw line as the ‘Cats ended the day 11-of-11 at the stripe.
