The Ada Jenkins Center is cooking up a delicious project: Thanks to American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) funding awarded by Mecklenburg County Government, the Center will soon start renovating its campus kitchen and cafeteria. The space will serve a variety of programming purposes–including potential rental of commercial kitchen/food prep space for food trucks.

“We are incredibly excited about the new opportunities this funding brings us,” says Heidi Acker, the Ada Jenkins Center’s Food Pantry Coordinator. “In addition to potential partnerships with area food trucks, we are creating new food-related programs to help clients and neighbors–especially seniors–sustain a healthy lifestyle.”

Anyone working with a food truck serving the Lake Norman area is invited to an information/learning session in the Ada Jenkins Center cafeteria on February 21 (3:30-5:30pm), so the Center planning staff can learn what types of kitchen functionality would be helpful.

For more information, please contact Heidi at [email protected] or 704-896-0471.
