Men’s Tennis Splits Saturday Home Matches
DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men’s tennis team earned one win and one loss in a Saturday full of home matches, as they move to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Atlantic 10 play on the young season.
The Wildcats picked up a dominant 7-0 win over Belmont Abbey in the morning session, before falling 2-5 to Wingate in the afternoon.
Against Belmont, the ‘Cats won the match triumphantly, picking up the doubles point early after a court one win from Maxwell Kachkarov and Juan Camilo Perez Gongora (7-5) and a victory from Nico Pinzon and Jerry Wang on court three (6-3).
In singles play, Kachkarov won his first solo match at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while William Clark followed suit with a two-set sweep at No. 2 (6-1, 6-4). On courts four and six, Pinzon and Sebastian Carpio Moran also earned sweeping victories, as Pinzon beat his opponent 6-1, 6-2 and Carpio Moran won 6-2, 6-2. Pinzon, a sophomore from Sunrise, Fla., currently leads the ‘Cats with a 4-1 singles record, and 2-0 ledger from No. 4.
Wang and Alejandro Solares rounded out the scoring, as the duo battled through three-set wins. Wang defeated his opponent, Vince, 6-0, 3-6, 10-5, and Solares won set one, 6-2, before bouncing back with a 10-6 win in set three.
Later in the day, Clark and Solares won singles matches against Wingate, but the Bulldogs ultimately came out on top, 5-2.
Solares won a two-set match at court three, 6-1, 7-5, and Clark battled back from a 1-0 deficit, winning sets two and three, 6-4, 6-2, respectively, to earn Davidson’s second point of the match.

Davidson will return to action next weekend with a trip to New York to take on Long Island University and Fordham.
