The ‘Cats will be back in action in Belk Arena – Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Despite four players in double figures, including 17 points from Sam Mennenga, Davidson fell at Saint Louis, 78-65, Wednesday evening inside Chaifetz Arena.

The setback drops the ‘Cats to 11-14 on the season and 4-9 in Atlantic 10 play.

Desmond Watson added 13 points, while David Skogman and Grant Huffman scored 12 and 10, respectively for the Wildcats, who finished the night shooting just 36.7 percent.

Davidson started the second half fast, scoring eight consecutive points highlighted by back-to-back treys from Watson to cut the deficit to 39-38. The Billikens answered with a run of their own to push the margin back to double digits.

Trailing 54-43, the Wildcats slowly chipped away making it a one-possession game, 59-57, on Huffman’s third 3-pointer of the night with 6:45 to play. Once again, Saint Louis responded all but putting the game out of reach.

The Billikens were led by Gibson Jimerson, who scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-20 shooting, including six of his club’s nine 3-pointers. His backcourt mate Yuri Collins recorded 11 points and 11 assists.

After slow starts by both teams offensively, Saint Louis (17-9, 9-4 A-10) broke open a one-point contest with a 14-3 run capped by four straight 3-pointers, including three from Jimerson.

The Billikens made eight of their last nine field goals to close the opening period, while taking a 39-30 lead into the half.
