Men’s Golf Tabbed Preseason Favorites in A-10 Poll

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson, which has captured the last two Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championships and three of the last four, has been tabbed preseason favorites as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.

Under the direction of five-time Conference Coach of the Year (3 – A-10 | 2 – SoCon) Tim Straub, the Wildcats garnered six first-place votes (137 points), edging VCU (134 points), which received five first-place nods.

Davidson returns three starters off last year’s squad including A-10 Player of the Year Alex Heffner and Rookie of the Year Will Davis. Davis and Heffner finished second and third, respectively, in last year’s Championships.

Richmond was picked third ahead of George Washington and Rhode Island. Dayton came in sixth with 86 points, and George Mason was seventh with 79 points. League-newcomer Loyola-Chicago was eighth with 57 points, followed by La Salle (30) and St. Bonaventure (36). Fordham (32) and Saint Joseph’s (30 points) rounded out the poll.

Through five events this season, the Wildcats have recorded three Top-5 showings, including a team title at the River Run Collegiate.
The 2023 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship begins Friday, April 28 at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla. The 12 A-10 golf teams will play 18 holes per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Practice rounds are slated for Thursday. Admission to the Atlantic 10 Golf Championship is free. The winner of the 54-hole event will receive the Atlantic 10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
