Lacrosse Returns Home for Senior Day, Winthrop Wednesday

The Wildcats will be back in action at Richardson Stadium Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

DAVIDSON, N.C. — After starting off the season with three of their first four games on the road, the Davidson lacrosse team will return to Richardson Stadium on Wednesday, March 1 to host Winthrop University at 4:30 p.m.

Prior to opening draw, the program will celebrate its graduating class of 2023.

ABOUT THE EAGLES… Winthrop is 1-1 to start off the 2023 campaign, defeating Kennesaw State 16-13 on opening day before falling 21-1 at Clemson on February 18. Junior Grayson McKenzie leads the Eagles with five goals on the year, while Emma Calhoun and Maddie Hodgson have shared time in goal.

AROUND THE NATION… Davidson’s offense has begun to establish itself in multiple national rankings, as the Wildcats rank 24th in assists per game (6.75) and 18th in points per game (21.5). Individually, Erin Cooke and Grace Fahey are in the top-50 in total assists with eight and seven, respectively, while Julianne Carey ranks 13th in draw controls per game (7.25) and Riley Cochrane ranks 25th in goals per game (3.67).

RAKING IN AWARDS… The Wildcats have collected one weekly honor from the Atlantic 10 during each week of the season thus far, as freshman Allie Hartnett won Rookie of the Week after the opening week of the season and Julianne Carey and Riley Cochrane have captured the last two Player of the Week awards. Cochrane was the latest ‘Cat to earn the honor, as she had a career-best, eight point day during a 20-14 win over Mercer last Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT… Davidson met the Eagles last season at the Crown Lacrosse Classic, defeating Winthrop 20-9. Julianne Carey dominated on the draw control and led the ‘Cats offensively with five goals and six points while Erin Cooke trailed Carey with five points from two goals and a game-high three assists.
