Baseball Cruises by Queens 16-6

by | Mar 1, 2023

If you can’t make it to Wilson Field – just remember you can watch most Wildcat Baseball games on ESPN+. This was the game winning pitch.

DAVIDSON — Davidson scored seven runs in the first two innings Tuesday and rolled past Queens 16-6 at Wilson Field, securing its fourth win in the last five games.

It was the first meeting between the two Mecklenburg County teams, with Davidson improving to 5-3 and the Charlotte-based Royals falling to 2-6 in their first Division I season.

Five Wildcats had multiple hits Tuesday, including Ryan Wilson who was 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a two-run home run, his third of the year, in the seventh. Michael O’Shaughnessy also had three hits (3-for-4) and drove in three, including the Wildcats’ first two runs with a first-inning single.

Landon Reeves tripled to lead off the four-run second and scored on a Jacob Hinderleider sacrifice fly. Nick Calero then doubled in two more runs before Wilson doubled in one, and the Wildcats were well on their way.

Hinderleider’s RBI-single and a sacrifice bunt by Jacob Friend highlighted the third, while Calero’s sacrifice fly in the fifth brought in Michael Carico, who had doubled. Reeves (double) and Carico (single) drove in runs in the eighth.

Miles Jamieson started a bullpen day for the Wildcats and threw 2.2 innings. In all, five Wildcat pitchers combined to allow 12 hits and six earned runs, while striking out out six.

Three of those strikeouts came from Will Banks in the ninth.
