DAVIDSON, N.C. – Tanner Peake of the Davidson wrestling team has been named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team the league announced on Thursday.

Peake, a native of Flemington, N.J., came onto the scene strong in his first year for the Wildcats. Peake opened his collegiate career in November at the Southeast Open where he made it to the semifinals of the freshman/sophomore 157-pound division with a 3-1 record.

From there, Peake did not wrestle until the month of January, but when he returned, he rattled off four straight wins. The first-year wrestler picked up SoCon dual wins against Bellarmine and Chattanooga before capturing his first collegiate pin and a third-place finish at the App State Open to end the month with a 5-1 record.

In February, Peake continued to gain momentum. The New Jersey product remained undefeated in conference duals with victories over The Citadel, VMI, and Gardner-Webb. He then traveled to the Last Chance Open at Iowa State where he took second place in the 157-pound weight class.

He ended his first collegiate regular season with a 13-3 overall record, a perfect 5-0 mark in SoCon action while recording two wins by major decision and one pin.

Peake is also the ninth Davidson wrestler to be named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team.
