Spring Wildflower Walk at Fisher Farm park
Join DLC and local wildflower expert, Paula Gross, on a walk to discover the surprises of early spring and possibly the rare beauty of spring ephemeral wildflowers. These plants are specially adapted to leaf and flower during a short window in the spring, braving potential frost to complete their reproductive cycle before forest tree leaves emerge and block needed sunlight. Learn how to spot and identify these unique plants and explore the magic of early spring in the forest on Saturday, March 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
We will meet at the parking lot at Fisher Farm Park, located at 21215 Shearer Road, Davidson, NC 28036. Sturdy shoes and a water bottle are recommended. This outing is appropriate for adults and children 8+.
Preregistration is required, so sign up here.
In case of inclement weather, an email will be sent out with an update the day before.
Paula Gross is the former associate director of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Botanical Gardens, and currently teaches at The Green School in Davidson, NC. She is the co-author of The Southeast Native Plant Primer and Bizarre Botanicals.
