2023 Mayors’ Fitness Challenge Kick Off Event

by | Mar 9, 2023

Mayor Rusty Knox holding the “2021 Mayors’ Fitness Challenge trophy. We want to bring the trophy back to Davidson this year.

The towns of Cornelius, Davidson, and Huntersville are excited for the 2023 Mayors’ Fitness Challenge to kick off Sunday, March 12, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., on the Bailey Road Park Football Field. The event is free to the public.

Davidson participants are encouraged to wear RED. Throughout the event, participants will rotate through various local fitness-oriented businesses including Happy Habits, Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics, and SweatNet. At each of the stations, participants will go through fitness tests before participating in a group workout session. Each session will be similar to what the fitness organizations offer at their businesses and are appropriate for all levels and ages.

Bragging rights are on the line when each town competes in fun activities towards the end of the event! Participation in the kick-off event will count towards active minutes for the week.

To wrap up the challenge on April 22, there will be a similar program also held on the Bailey Road Park football field. The results of the fitness test from the kick-off event will be compared with the results from the wrap-up event, giving each participant an idea of how much they have improved throughout the duration of the challenge.

In case of inclement weather, a decision about how to proceed will be made by the end of the business day on Friday, March 10. A release will go out via social media, email, and the weather hotline (704-940-9637) will be updated.

There’s still time for Davidson residents to join the challenge and help their town win the title of Fittest Town!

The challenge runs six weeks, March 12 – April 22. At the end of six weeks, the town with the highest average active minutes per participant will be awarded the Fittest Community Trophy. We encourage everyone to invite their friends, family, co-workers, and anyone who lives in these towns to participate in the fun and become more active.

Registration is free but required for all participants.

Editors’ note: press release updated specifically for Davidson residents.
