Baseball Falls to Bryant in Saturday Doubleheader
DAVIDSON – Bryant’s bats stayed hot Saturday as the Davidson baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Wilson Field.
Bryant won by 15-5 and 11-1 scores Saturday to drop the Wildcats to 6-9 overall.
Game 1
A day after hitting four solo home runs, the Wildcats hit three more in Saturday’s first game, but it wasn’t enough in a 15-5 loss.
Two of those homers came off the bat of Ryan Wilson, who now leads the Wildcats with seven round-trippers and 18 RBIs. His first Saturday came in the bottom of the first after Bryant took a 2-0 lead.
Wilson homered again in the eighth, two batters after Anthony Torreso hit his first career home run. Wilson was 3-for-3 and scored the Wildcats’ other two runs, on Henry Koehler’s RBI-single in the fourth and on a throwing error in the sixth.
Bryant got separation by scoring four runs in the third and fourth innings and was led by Davidson graduate John Hosmer, who was 4-for-6 with a double, home run and four RBIs.
Game 2
Bryant scored five runs on four hits in the top of the first and controlled from there in an 11-1 victory.
The Bulldogs’ lead grew to 7-0 before the Wildcats scored their only run in the third inning when Nick Calero’s RBI-single plated Wilson. Calero was the only Wildcat with multiple hits in the second game. In the fifth, Tyler Douglas and Jacob Friend had back-to-back one-out singles before an inning-ending double play.
