DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, head volleyball coach Chris Willis has announced the addition of three scholar-athletes to his roster for the 2023 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Joining the ‘Cats this fall will be Elena Garcia Guerrios, Mia Compas and Melanie Tilles.

“This class brings an ability to score at the net that I believe will translate immediately,” Willis said. “They have also already bonded in a way that has built amazing chemistry, and I look forward to seeing that play out on the court this fall.”

Elena Garcia Guerrios | OH | 6-0 | Manati, Puerto Rico
Elena Garcia Guerrios captained her varsity volleyball team during her senior season and also led her club team, JTPR/Arsenal, during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. With national team experience, Guerrios has competed for the Puerto Rican 19U and 21U Youth National Teams, while also winning All-Star honors from the Caribbean Volleyball Championship.

Coach’s Take
“Elena has a personality that fills a room and can amplify the energy on the court. Her style of play, as an outside hitter, will complement our team. We now have more depth at that position than we’ve ever had in my time at Davidson.”

Melanie Tilles | MB | 6-2 | Palos Verdes Estates, California
Melanie Tilles concluded her high school career at Palos Verdes with a Division I state finals appearance and won the DI Southern California Championship. A middle blocker, Tilles garnered All-Area First Team recognition in addition to All-Bay League First Team honors. She also served as team captain of the Surfside MB 17 Legends team in 2022.

Coach’s Take
“Melanie is a talented athlete who brings an elite block to our front line. Her development over the last year has been outstanding. When she gets in our gym, I think her learning curve will only accelerate.”

Mia Compas | MB | 6-1 | Carlsbad, CA
Hailing from Cathedral Catholic High School, Mia Compas played three years of both varsity indoor and beach volleyball. During her senior season, Compas hit .450 out of the middle, with 100 kills and 45 blocks, to lead her team to a 42-game win streak that included a 2022 CIF championship and state championship. A two-time All-League selection, Compas also collected All-Tournament Team honors in 2021 and 2022 for both beach and indoor volleyball.

Coach’s Take
“Mia comes from elite high school and club programs where she learned how to compete and win at a high level. She will bring a terminal arm to the court, along with a full skill set that will allow her to play more than one position.”
