Davis Shoots Final Round 67 to Lead ‘Cats to Another Top-10 Finish
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Despite a double bogey on his opening hole, sophomore Will Davis played his final 17 holes in seven-under to fire a final-round 67, leading Davidson to a ninth-place finish at the 2023 UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate.
The 54-hole event was played on the Par 72, 7,031-yard Country Club of Landfall Dye Course layout.
As a team, the Wildcats carded a three-under 285 Monday afternoon to climb two spots up the 17-team leaderboard and record their seventh Top-10 in eight outings this season.
Davis (-5 | T-14), last year’s Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, entered his final 18 holes tied for 33rd, before bolting up the 92-player leaderboard with the day’s second-lowest total.
Junior Alex Heffner continued his steady play and joined his teammate in the Top-20 signing for a 213 (-3).
TCU (-21), which entered 27th in the most recent GolfStat national rankings, withstood an early charge from Wright State (-20) to capture the team title by one stroke.
Barend Botha of Toledo won the individual crown with a 12-under 204.
Davidson will wrap up regular season play April 7-8 at the Stitch Intercollegiate hosted by NC State.
