Town of Davidson Earth Day Festival
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Earth Day, traditionally celebrated on April 22 since 1970, is a global initiative which seeks to raise awareness of environmental issues, as well as empower individuals to make changes in their daily lives that positively impact the environment. The Town of Davidson, Davidson Lands Conservancy, and Davidson College invite the community to enjoy a festival of Earth Day activities. Come and join in on the fun Saturday, April 22 at the Davidson Town Green between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
This year, the Town of Davidson’s Earth Day Festival will include a series of family-friendly, hands-on, and informative Learning Zones hosted by Davidson College students on nine different environmental topics: air, biodiversity, climate, environmental justice, energy, food, urbanization, water, and waste. The Davidson Lands Conservancy will be giving away native plants (while supplies last, so stop by early!) to encourage wildlife-friendly yards. Festival participants will be given Learning Passports to complete for entry in a prize lottery. Residents are encouraged to walk or bike to the festival, get “premium parking,” and also be entered to earn a prize.
Also featured will be other area non-profits and local businesses ready to answer your questions and offer solutions to help you reduce your carbon footprint, including Mecklenburg County Beekeepers Association, Davidson Farmers Market, Davidson College Presbyterian Church’s Green Team, and more. Learn about the importance of pollinators, recycling right, electric vehicles, climate action, and how to establish a wildlife friendly yard.
Hear from area businesses who are working to make a difference for a healthy planet and healthy people, including Better Tomorrow Solar, Sheets Laundry Club, Good Earth Essentials, Cereset
Davidson, Coaching with Karen, A Small Change, Pedego Electric Bikes Lake Norman, and more. Additional eco-friendly prizes are sponsored by Dearness Gardens, Ace Hardware, Harris Teeter, Bradford Market, and others.
Bring your taste buds along to try Zizi’s Vegan Cuisine Food Truck, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Boomerang Water, and Summit Coffee’s drink options while learning about their sustainability efforts.
Town of Davidson Sustainability Committee members and town staff will be on hand to help residents take advantage of homeowner incentive programs, electric vehicle tax rebates, and the upcoming community-wide 2023 Climate Action planning process.
