O’Shaughnessy Named A-10 Baseball Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson first baseman Michael O’Shaughnessy has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

A freshman from Delmar, N.Y., O’Shaughnessy hit .364 (4-for-11) with a double, one home run and seven RBIs as the Wildcats won two of three games against Fordham in the first A-10 series.

O’Shaughnessy finished the three-game week with a 1.260 OPS (.533 on-base, .727 slugging), and in Friday’s 7-5 win, he drove in a team-best four runs. He had a two-run double in the fourth inning as the Wildcats built a 4-1 lead, and he drove in two more runs with a fourth-inning single as they extended it. Saturday, he hit a three-run home run as part of the Wildcats’ 13-run fourth inning that led to a 23-7 win.

For the season, O’Shaughnessy has started 21 of 24 games and is hitting a team-best .359, which is sixth-best in the A-10. He’s also second in the league in on-base percentage (.500), fourth in OPS (1.154), fifth in slugging percentage (.654) and ninth in home runs (6).

O’Shaughnessy and the Wildcats will host Presbyterian Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
