DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off its third straight FCS Playoff appearance, Davidson unveiled its 2023 football schedule Wednesday.

Under the direction of head coach Scott Abell, who is in his sixth season at the helm, the ‘Cats’ 11-game slate will feature six home games and eight Pioneer Football League contests.

For the second time in the last three years, the Wildcats will open their campaign in Lexington, Va., when they take on the VMI Keydets on Sept. 2.

A week later, Davidson will kick off its final season in Richardson Stadium, when Barton (Sept. 9) visits the friendly confines for a 7 p.m. game.

The Wildcats open PFL play at Marist Sept. 16 before playing four of their next five at home. In addition to a 22-7 conference record dating back to 2019, Davidson has won two of the last three league titles.

Following its Sept. 23 meeting with St. Andrews, the final non-conference contest of the 2023 season, the ‘Cats will welcome league rival San Diego to town in week five.

Davidson’s bye (Oct. 7) will come at the midway point before a trip to Indianapolis for a 1 p.m. tilt with Butler on Oct. 14. The Wildcats’ 31-0 blanking of the Bulldogs last season was their first shutout against a league opponent in 15 years.

October will conclude with home dates against conference foes Valparaiso (Oct. 21) and Presbyterian (Oct. 28). The ‘Cats’ contest with the Blue Hose will be the third installment of the Carolina Border Clash, which Davidson leads 2-0.

Trips to Stetson (Nov. 4) and Morehead State (Nov. 11) will close out the road slate before the Wildcats host Dayton in their regular-season finale and last game inside Richardson Stadium, a place they have called home since 1923.
