Track and Field Teams Set Records at Southside Power and Fitness Invitational

Women’s TeamKate Carnevale and Rachel Horowitz set a new individual school records in sprint events, Breila Fuller won the 800 meters, and the 4×100 relay team set a new program record to highlight Davidson’s outing at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Southside Power & Fitness Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Carnevale, a Pittsburgh, Pa. native, finished in second place in the 100 meters after crossing the finish line in a school-record time of 12.02 seconds. This broke her previous record of 12.06 which she set in 2021, and it places her sixth fastest on the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Performance List.

Another school record set on the day was from Rachel Horowitz. Horowitz, the reigning A-10 indoor 400-meter champion, stopped the clock in 24.42 seconds to take fourth place and overtake the new program record. Kierra Marshall, who recorded a wind-aided mark of 24.06 two weeks ago, finished just behind Horowitz with a 24.43, good for fifth place.

The Davidson 4×100 relay team consisting of Horowitz, Cassandra Blau, Marshall, and Carnevale set the new program standard when they combined for a time of 46.65 seconds. This is the second-fastest mark in the conference.

Taking home the Wildcats’ top finish on the weekend was senior Breila Fuller in the 800-meters. Fuller, a Wyoming native, crossed the finish line first by stopping the timer in 2:16.05. This puts her inside the top-20 on the Atlantic 10 outdoor list.  

In total, the ‘Cats had 14 individual top-10 finishes and 11 new personal-records.

Men’s Team – The Davidson men’s track and field team shined at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Southside Power and Fitness Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The ‘Cats had four first-place finishes and every athlete who competed finished inside the top-10.

The Wildcats hurdlers arrived ready to roll this weekend by sweeping the 110-meter hurdles and securing the top spot in the 400-meter event. Jayden Smith, Jordan Benson, Bryce Anthony, and Isaac Bynum went 1, 2, 3, 4 in the 110H to secure the clean sweep. Smith finished in 13.85 seconds while Benson turned in a new personal-best at 13.94 seconds. Davidson now has the top-three times in the Atlantic 10 in the 110 hurdles.

Bryce Anthony followed his third-place finish in the 110H with the fastest time of the day in the 400H. Anthony stopped the clock in 52.61 to earn first place and move to second on the A-10 Outdoor Performance List.

Jayden Smith also increased his stock in the 200-meters. The sophomore ran a personal-best time of 21.70 to take third at the meet and move to fourth in the conference.

Another Wildcat to earn a first-place finish was Dylan Ameres in the triple jump. The redshirt junior landed in a season-best 14.43 meters to win the event and move to sixth in the Atlantic 10 rankings.

Davidson’s 4×100 relay team consisting of Bryce Anthony, Isaac Bynum, Amit Markos, and Josh Hardin cruised to the fastest time at the meet with a 3:16.14. This ranks the Wildcats third in the A-10.

In the 800 meters, Davidson had four athletes within the top-six led by freshman Ryan Harris. Harris ran his fastest-career time of 1:55.21 to take second place while Miles Kominsky, Kenny Eheman, and Owen Lekkifinished 4th, 5th, and 6th respectively.

Chinedu Okeke also turned in a new PR and a top-10 finish in the 100m when he crossed the finish line in 10.80 seconds to take seventh at the meet.

Also in field events, Jack Stajos finished in third place in the discus with a throw of 48.32 meters and took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 14.58 meters.

The Wildcats will continue their outdoor campaign next weekend at the Virginia Challenge and USC Open.
