Lacrosse Falls to #21 Spiders
DAVIDSON, N.C. — After a 5-5 first period, the #21 Richmond Spiders held Davidson to just two goals apiece over the final three quarters of play to defeat the Wildcats 18-11 on Saturday afternoon.
Richmond’s Arden Tierney and Colleen Quinn recorded eight points each, while Lindsey Frank scored a game-high five goals. Erin Cooke led the Wildcats with her third hat trick in four games, and ended the day with four points, as Riley Redpath and Allie Hartnett added three points apiece.
Paige Doyle saw 17 minutes in cage for the ‘Cats, making three saves and holding the Spiders to a game-low three goals in the fourth quarter.
The Spiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead with their first surge of the day, before Cooke scored back-to-back goals that cut the deficit to one, 3-2, with 5:32 to go in the first.
From there, Lauren Garcia netted her sixth goal of the season to tie up the game, before Riley Cochrane struck twice and forced Richmond into a timeout while putting the ‘Cats in front 5-3, for their only lead of the day.
Out of the timeout, and with one minute to go in the frame, Richmond scored twice to tie things at 5-5 going into the second.
Cooke scored her 28th of the season to keep the game tied 6-6 early in the second, before the Spiders pulled ahead by two goals and eventually led 11-7 at the half, all but putting the game out of reach.
In the final 20 minutes of play, Richmond held the ‘Cats to just four goals while netting seven more and winning nine out of the final 13 draw controls.

Davidson will close out the regular season next weekend at La Salle before beginning its battle for the A-10 title in the quarterfinal round.
