Marshall Sets 100-Meter Record at USC Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior Kierra Marshall broke the program record in the 100-meters, Molly Sullivan won the 3,000-meters, and numerous Wildcats set personal-records at the University of South Carolina Open on Saturday.

After already setting personal bests in the 100m and 200m this outdoor season, Kierra Marshall took things to another level on Saturday. Marshall, a junior, snapped the school record in the 100 and became the first female Wildcat to run the event in under 12 seconds. The Rockville, Md. native stopped the clock at 11.99 seconds to etch her name in the record books.

In the 3,000-meters, the duo of Molly Sullivan and Natalie Abernathy earned the top-two finishes. Sullivan, a freshman from North Kingston, R.I., crossed the line first in 10:30.07 and Abernathy crossed shortly after in 10:38.81.

Senior Rachel Horowitz set a new personal best and boosted her standing on the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Performance List. Hororwitz crossed the line in the 400-meters in 55.29 seconds to earn a top-15 finish at the meet and propel herself into the top-five in the conference.

The women’s track and field team will be back in action this coming weekend at the Charlotte Invitational.

Davidson Wraps Up Weekend at USC Outdoor Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Davidson men’s track and field team competed at the University of South Carolina Outdoor Open on Saturday and turned in a trio of top-five finishes.

The ‘Cats were led by Jayden Smith who won the 110-meter hurdles with a blazing time of 13.37 seconds in the final. This time is Smith’s best, but the tail-wind rating was too high to count as a new school record. Also finishing in the top-five was veteran Jordan Benson. Benson ran a wind-aided time of 13.77 seconds to take fourth.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Isaac Bynum took third place after he set a new personal-best with a mark of 52.59 seconds, and Amith Markos crossed in 56.99 seconds.

Chinedu Okeke also saw his time beneifit from the tail winds after he crossed the finish line in 10.55 seconds in the 100-meters with a wind factor of 2.7.

Miles Kominsky and Rafi Degenero competed in the 800-meters and Kominsky finished just outside the top-10 after recording a time of 1:54.85. Degenero finished with a mark of 1:58.24.

The men’s track and field team will compete next friday and Saturday at UNC Charlotte’s Charlotte Invitational.

dosReis and Siebert Set Records at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Joe dosReis and Charlie Siebert each made history with record-setting performances at the Virginia Challenge on Friday evening. dosReis broke his own school record in the 1,500-meters while Siebert shattred the program mark in the 10,000 meters.

dosReis, who also owns Davidson’s top outdoor times in the 800 and mile, previously set the school record in the 1500m last year at the Princeton Elite Relays with a 3:42.71. On Friday, the Rhode Island native bested that time by finishing in 3:40.52 to take eighth at the meet. This time also ranks atop the Atlantic 10 Conference and top-35 in the country ahead of this weekend’s action.

Siebert, a sophomore, further etched his name in the Davidson track and field record book by running a 29:24.74 in the 10,000 meters. This broke a ten-year-old record set by Demetrius Pagonis back in 2013 and propelled Siebert into fourth in the conference rankings. Siebert recently also broke the school record in the 5000m at the Duke Invitational on April 8.

Owen Drometer also competed in the 800 meters and nearly set a record of his own. The Medfield, Mass. native set a personal-best mark of 1:49.26 which was just behind dosReis’s fresh record of 1:49.04. Drometer and dosReis now sit in second and third place on the A-10 list.
