April is for Arts: Gallery Crawl  

April 28 @ 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Historic Main Street, South Main Square, and Circles @ 30

The Gallery Crawl is a great way to see art all over Davidson. Artists display their work in Davidson’s establishments from our historic Main Street over to South Main Street and at the Circles @ 30. Galleries, businesses, and town hall host visiting artists, including some that will be featured at Art on the Green April 29-30. Refreshments and music enhance the festivities. Please join us!

 

Charlotte’s Web – Davidson Community Players Connie Company

April 28 @ 7:00 p.m.

Armour Street Theatre – 307 Armour Street

Named “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” it’s the story about a famous spider. All the enchanting characters are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web. It’s the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte. Buy tickets.

Independent Bookstore Day 2023

It’s our favorite day of the year! Independent Bookstore Day is a celebration of books, readers, and indie bookstores. We’ll have book signings with:

The Town of Davidson, Davidson Lands Conservancy, and Davidson College invite the community to enjoy a festival of Earth Day activities. Town of Davidson Sustainability Committee members and town staff will be on hand to help residents take advantage of homeowner incentive programs, electric vehicle tax rebates, and the upcoming community-wide 2023 Climate Action planning process.

Davidson’s juried art festival features booths filled with top-quality art works from artists throughout the region. The weekend includes musical performances by a variety of local talents and a host of food choices from both on-site vendors and area restaurants. Join us for an exciting weekend filled with visual, musical, and culinary arts!

Explore the heart of Davidson on a self-guided tour in support of Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center. All of our fabulous homes are within walking distance of the Town Green: Three on Lorimer, two on N. Main, one on Greenway, and two near McEver Field. Happy walking!

 

Creative Crafting – April is for Arts

April is for Arts in Davidson!  Come join the Davidson Staff in the Community Room for a Drop In Event and do some creative crafting using a variety of supplies. Take time to explore the Art on the Green. This program will take place indoors at the Davidson Branch Library.

Your whole family can enjoy stories, songs, and movement activities that support early literacy skill development and help foster a love of books and reading in your child. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate. This program will take place indoors in the Community Meeting Room at Davidson Branch Library. Registration for this program is limited to 25 participants. Please register all people attending storytime.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate. This program will take place outdoors on the Green at Davidson Branch Library, in front of the library. Please bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on.

[Inclement weather note: In the case of inclement weather and/or below 40 degrees, we will cancel the outdoor program. A decision to cancel will be announced via email the morning of the event.] Registration for this program is limited to 30 families. Please register one contact person for your entire family.

This program will be held in the children’s area of the Davidson Branch Library. Participants will be required to complete a form with reading interests prior to attending. Boost your reading skills and confidence by reading aloud to a volunteer therapy dog. Paws to Read will be returning to our branch on Tuesday afternoons. Register for a 20 minute reading session with one of our Paws to Read dogs Marshall, Maverick, SabaiDee and Trooper! We hope to read with you soon!​

 

Annual Student Art Exhibition – Reception and Awards

The Van Every/Smith Galleries and the Davidson College Art Department will present our Annual Student Art Exhibition. Join us for the reception for our Annual Student Art Exhibition. The exhibition highlights more than 60 works produced during the academic year by both art majors and non art-majors at Davidson College. Works on view have been selected by the studio art faculty and include drawings, paintings, sculptures, prints, digital art and more. Awards will be selected and presented by guest juror Caitlin Haskell ’01, Gary C. and Frances Comer Curator in Modern and Contemporary Art and Director of Ray Johnson Collections and Research at the Art Institute of Chicago. Exhibition, awards, and reception presented by Barings.

Ignite: Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 Opening Night Screening Benefit

Our Town’s Cinema

You are invited to an opening night screening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 at Our Town Cinemas, in Davidson, NC. Proceeds benefit the IGNITE Program for individuals with high-functioning autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. Each ticket includes any size soft drink and popcorn. Doors open at 6:15pm and the movie begins at 7:00pm. Please bring your Eventbrite ticket to our IGNITE sign in table to retrieve a commemorative admission ticket and your free popcorn & drink passes.
