Lacrosse Ends Regular Season with Win Over La Salle; Clinches No. 4 Seed
PHILADELPHIA — Davidson’s defense shut down La Salle University on Saturday afternoon, while the offense scored 16 goals on 22 shots to rout the Explorers 16-3 in the regular season finale.
Holding La Salle to three goals was a season-best performance for the Wildcats’ defense, as Davidson concluded the 2023 regular season with an 11-5 record overall and 6-3 conference ledger. With their record, the ‘Cats have officially clinched the No. 4 seed at next week’s Atlantic 10 Championship, and will meet George Washington University in the opening round on Thursday, May 4 at 12 p.m.
Sophomore Riley Moore had a career-high day to pace the ‘Cats, scoring five goals while picking up three ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover. Julianne Carey kick-started the offense, winning 14 draw controls, four ground balls and six points off three assists and three goals.
In goal, Amanda Monahan and Paige Doyle split time, combining for nine saves off 12 shots-on-goal, while the defense caused 12 turnovers and went 21-of-25 on clear attempts. Additionally, senior Anna West recorded the second hat trick of her career, and captain Erin Cooke ended the day with three goals and one assist.
Davidson scored early and often in Philadelphia and led 7-1 after one half of play, including a man-down goal from Grace Fahey at the 7:54 mark in the second.
Over the final 30, the ‘Cats outscored La Salle 9-2, led by West’s three goals and a score from Caroline Moran.
