Emergency Vehicles for Ukraine! An Update on February 24 Event
Thank you for your incredibly generous support for Ukraine at the Davidson College/D4U/UCCA February 24 event marking the one-year anniversary of the full-scale invasion.
It was certainly a lengthy process to identify, purchase, and transport emergency vehicles. We appreciate your patience! We are happy to report that thanks to your support, and to intense logistical work by UCCA in Charlotte Deputy Director, Sergiy Mysyk, we have purchased six vehicles that are now making their way to Ukraine!
Partnering with Hospitallers, a registered UK non-profit with deep experience in Ukraine, the $35,000 we raised in February, along with an additional $15,000 raised by UCCA, allowed us to purchase three ambulances and another three evacuation trucks that will be fitted out as ambulances for reaching off-road areas. Five of the vehicles are already on their way to Poland and should arrive by May 10. The sixth vehicle required some repairs. We will keep you posted when it makes its way from the UK to Poland and onto Ukraine.
As you know, a major counter-offensive by Ukraine is anticipated this spring and summer. The emergency vehicles that you helped purchase will save lives as Ukrainians continue to fight for their country against Russian aggression.

Update on D4U Support for Local Ukrainian Refugee Families
Over the past several months, many of you have contributed to the DCPC fund to support Ukrainian refugee families here in Davidson. We are grateful to DCPC, in its capacity as a registered non-profit 501(c)(3), for serving as our fiscal agent for those donations. We have worked to ensure that funds are distributed equitably among our refugee families. To date, we have dispersed $3,936.56 for urgent dental care and for car repairs that are essential for families to get to and from work. We also set aside $1,100 for anticipated medical expenses. Moving forward, this fund will continue to help Ukrainian refugees in Davidson with medical or dental expenses, summer camp fees, so they can continue working after school closes for the summer, and other unexpected and urgent expenses. Your contributions are making a difference in their everyday lives! If you would like to contribute to that fund to support local Ukrainian refugees, you can write a check or donate online. D4U at Town Day, Saturday, May 6
With many thanks to Aimee Symington and Tanya Cihovska for organizing, D4U will have a booth at Davidson’s Town Day, this Saturday, May 6, from 10:00-3:00 on the Town Green. You’ll be able to purchase homemade Ukrainian food (cabbage rolls & baked goods), as well as Ukrainian souvenirs, and face painting. All funds will be donated for medical support for Ukraine. We will also be accepting donations for the DCPC fund for local Ukrainian refugees. We still need volunteers to contribute treats for the bake sale. If you’d like to try your hand at baking a Ukrainian dessert, signup here: https://www.
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday!
