Golf Concludes Another Banner Season with 4th NCAA Regional Appearance

LAS VEGAS, Nev.Joshua Stewart carded his third straight sub-par round and finished tied for 25th to pace Davidson, which wrapped up its memorable season Wednesday afternoon at the 2023 NCAA Las Vegas Regional.

The three-day/54-hole regional hosted by UNLV was played on the Par 72, 7,217-yard Bear’s Best Las Vegas layout. For the second straight day, play was halted for over an hour due to lightning in the area.

A redshirt freshman from Winter Springs, Fla., Stewart signed for his second straight 70 after opening with a 4-under 68 to finish at 8-under 208.

Alex Heffner (66-70-79), the 2023 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Conference Champion, joined his teammate Brian Garrett (71-72-72) at one-under 215. Will Davis(219 | T-61) and Ethan Hall (239 | 72nd) rounded out the Wildcat scoring.

In addition to winning its third straight A-10 Championship and fourth in five tries, Davidson concludes the 2023 campaign with three wins, seven Top-5 finishes and a 284.54 stroke average.

No. 4 Arizona State (-59) edged No. 8 Stanford (-57) by two strokes to claim the team title. No. 16 Virginia (-49), No. 45 San Francisco (-45) and No. 33 ETSU (-43) will join the two Pac 12 schools at next week’s NCAA Finals, which will be held May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Ben James of Virginia and San Francisco’s Matthew Anderson tied for individual medalist at 20-under 196.

Oklahoma State’s Jonas Baumgartner (-15), who was the lowest individual not on an advancing team, will also move on to the next stage.
