Three ‘Cats Selected to A-10 All-Academic Team

by | Jun 1, 2023

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Three Davidson Wildcats were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team on Tuesday. Senior Joe dosReis, junior Josh Hardin, and sophomore Jayden Smith were all selected.

Capping off a historic career at Davidson, Joe dosReis added another accolade to his resume with his second career selection to the conference’s All-Academic squad. The Smithfield, Rhode Island product was the A-10 champion in the 1500-meters after breaking the meet and facility record this season, and he also ran anchor on the gold-medal-winning 4×800 relay team. dosReis, a biology major, ends his career with a total of ten A-10 medals and holds six different indoor and outdoor school records.

Back-to-back A-10 400-meter champion, Josh Hardin, earned his first career all-academic nod.
The junior biology major defended his crown in the 400-meters this May when he ran a personal-best time of 46.79 to capture his second conference outdoor championship. He also qualified for the NCAA East Prelims for the first time in his career and ran on Davidson’s record-breaking distance medley relay team at the Penn Relays this past April. Hardin currently holds three top-ten marks on Davidson’s all-time list in the 400.

Davidson’s final selection was sophomore hurdler Jayden Smith. Smith had a year to remember as he won gold in the 110-meter hurdles for the second straight season, was named the A-10 Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer of this year’s conference meet, and recorded a top-ten national time. The second-year man from Richmond, Va. cruised to his fourth career A-10 gold medal with a meet, facility, and conference-record time of 13.42 seconds in the 110-meter hurdle finals. This was the eighth-fastest qualifying time across all of NCAA Division I. Smith currently holds eight of Davidson’s top-ten fastest marks in the 110-hurdles, and he qualified for the NCAA East Prelims for the second time in as many years. He now adds all-academic recognition in his first season being eligible for the award.

To be considered for the A-10 All-Academic team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore both academically and eligibility-wise, be a starter or significant contributor, and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better.
