Women’s Soccer Drops Road Match to ETSU
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Davidson College women’s soccer team fell 2-0 Sunday to East Tennessee State University on the road.
The non-conference loss moves the Wildcats’ record to 1-1 overall on the season while the Buccaneers improve to 1-0-1.
Davidson was led on offense by Brooke Ditcham who landed the Wildcats’ lone shot-on-goal of the game. Ditcham was accompanied in the offensive attack by Phoebe Fowler, Riley Patton and Savannah Pruitt who tallied one shot apiece.
The first half of action saw a heavy ETSU offensive surge that was stopped successfully four times by Emily Smith by way of saves to ensure a 0-0 stalemate at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the intense defensive battle ensued as Smith tacked on another save early.
However, ETSU was able to convert on its next two attempts, with the first coming in the 76th minute by Molly Cason and the second just one minute later by Reagan Fitzgerald.
Davidson’s final attempt to avoid the shutout was in the final minute of competition when Ditcham lofted a shot to the top center of the net, but Buccaneer goalkeeper Ashton Blair was able to make the save en route to a 2-0 ETSU victory.
For the game, East Tennessee State held advantages over Davidson in total shots (16-4), shots-on-goal (8-1) and corners (6-2).
The Wildcats will continue the non-conference portion of the schedule when they welcome UNC Asheville to Alumni Soccer Stadium Aug. 24 at 4 p.m.
