Use the Gig Hub to Hire a Student

by | Aug 29, 2023

Davidson College’s Hurt Hub

This fall, “back to school” can mean less work for you, thanks to the Hurt Hub’s Gig-Hub Program. Gig-Hub is a micro-internship program that brings Davidson students to you, to engage in project based work. Davidson students will provide your business immediate project support, and you will offer the students hands-on experience to serve as a building block for their career. Projects (gigs) can range from performing market analysis, creating a social media content calendar, analyzing data, or any other project you can’t find the time to complete yourself. Gigs typically run about 30 hours, but there is no minimum or maximum project length.

How Does the Gig-Hub Program Work?

  • To hire a student, submit a project.

  • The project will be posted to the Davidson College student employment portal.

  • Students who have identified an interest in working as a project based consultant, will apply to the role.

  • Via email, you will receive all applications then select who you would like to interview and hire.

  • The Gig-Hub program will handle the hiring, tax forms, and tracking hours.

  • At the end of each month, you will receive an invoice for actual hours worked. Projects are billed at $18 per hour resulting in the total cost of a 20 hour project to be $360 and a 40 hour project to be $720.

Plan for your student to work 5 – 10 hours per week over the course of six to eight weeks. We encourage you to meet with your student once a week at the Hurt Hub; collaborating in person is a unique opportunity as a coworker and offers the student additional exposure to your experience. At the end of the semester, all participating coworking members and student consultants, will gather for an interactive, Hurt Hub sponsored, share-out session…yes, food will be provided.

Gig-Hub projects can be submitted through September 15th with interviews to begin about two weeks later. To make interview logistics as smooth as possible, you will share your Calendly link through the online form. If you do not have a Calendly account, you can set one up for free.

If you have questions, reply to this email or connect with Keith Varriale via ([email protected]) or schedule a time to connect at the Hurt Hub.

We look forward to working with you and seeing the wonderful results of your student collaboration.
