Game 1 – Davidson 3 | Northern Illinois 1
The Wildcats capped off their 5-0 start to the season, and best start since 1990, with a 3-1 victory over NIU Saturday morning.

Jackie Bardin and Anna Withee pushed the ‘Cats through set one, notching four kills apiece, as Davidson hit .217 as a team and held off the Huskies, 25-22.

NIU responded in the second, jumping out to a 10-5 lead before Emma Slusser recorded a kill and Xuan Nguyen served an ace that cut the deficit to two, 13-11. Davidson kicked off the third set with six kills on their first nine swings (.667), and used a pair of aces from Jordan Hummel to quickly take a 13-5 lead. After forcing the Huskies into two early timeouts, NIU came back within six of the ‘Cats, 23-17, before Slusser and Omonije closed out the 25-19 win with back-to-back kills.

Withee and Bardin helped lead the ‘Cats to a 5-1 start in the fourth set, as the Wildcats hit a match-best .382 to win 25-20 and seal the 3-1 match victory.

Overall, Davidson swung .228 while Bardin (15 kills), Slusser (14) and Withee (11) led the offense.

Game 2 – Davidson 3 | UNC Wilmington 1
Set one proved to be a barn burner between the Wildcats and Seahawks, as the two teams combined for 33 kills and battled to a 30-28 UNC Wilmington victory.

The ‘Cats bounced back in the second, chipping away at a three-point, 8-5, deficit with kills from Slusser and Omonije, before Omonije and Withee connected on a commanding block at the net. With an ace from Nguyen, Davidson took its first lead of the day and gained momentum to pull ahead by as many as six, ultimately gutting out the 25-21 win.

Davidson put together its best set yet during the third frame, jumping ahead to a 13-7 lead capped off by a Davis kill that brought Belk Arena to its feet. Behind a .237 attacking percentage, while also holding UNCW to a .029 clip, the ‘Cats managed to win 25-17 and take a 2-1 match advantage.

Wilmington cruised to a 5-0 lead at the start of the fourth and maintained its momentum midway through the frame. Trailing 10-8, the Wildcats settled the score after two Seahawks miscues before rattling off a 10-5 run to create a 20-15 edge. Over the final stretch, Davidson relied on a pair of kills from Slusser and Davis and sealed the deal, 25-19, to win the Wildcat Classic.
