DavidsonLearns Spotlight Event with Heartland Baroque

by | Sep 5, 2023

Please join us for a pre-concert conversation with Heartland Baroque’s Director, Martie Perry. She will talk with us about the ensemble’s instruments and period instrument performance, accompanied by musical examples from the program. She will also discuss the creative processes involved in programming and performing concerts, as well as the theme of this concert and the history of the Venetian Ospedale.

Bound by a passion for playing instrumental music of the 17th and 18th centuries, Heartland Baroque is an ensemble made up of respected early music specialists from all over the United States. Its members include Martie Perry and David Wilson, baroque violins, Barbara Krumdieck, baroque cello, Keith Collins, dulcian and baroque bassoon, and William Simms, theorbo and baroque guitar. This concert, entitled Wheel of the Innocents — 17th-Century Composers in the Venetian Ospedale, will feature the music of composers associated with the charitable communities that served the sick and needy of Venice in the baroque period.
