DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off their draw at Virginia Tech, the Davidson men’s soccer team returns home for a non-conference matchup with the Averett Cougars on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

The two teams met for the first time on September 9 a season ago, and the Wildcats came out with a 3-0 victory. Davidson wasted no time in jumping ahead in last year’s meeting as Vincent Bennage scored in the fourth minute and Denis Krioutchenkov scored five minutes later. Krioutchenkov later netted another goal in the 51st minute, giving him his first collegiate multi-goal game. The ‘Cats ended the game with 16 total shots and allowed just three by the Panthers in a dominant performance.

Offensive Weapons
Two games in, the Wildcats have been led offensively by Bennage and Krioutchenkov. Bennage has two goals for the ‘Cats this season on just three shots including a beautiful strike through multiple defenders against Virginia Tech and the second goal against Presbyterian last Thursday. This offensive performance was enough to earn the Kenosha, Wisc. native Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors.

Krioutchenkov leads the team and ranks 6th nationally in shots per game with ten already. The preseason all-conference selection rattled off eight against Presbyterian and two against VT for an average of five per game.

Fresh Faces
Head coach Mike Babst has shown confidence in his full roster during the first two matches. So far through two games, 19 of the 27 rostered players (70%) have seen game action already and four of the seven freshmen Wildcats have been on the pitch for at least 35 minutes. Davidson’s depth is something the ‘Cats will continue lean on as the season gets into full swing.

About the Cougars
Averett enters Alumni Stadium with a 1-0-1 record after most recently defeating Greensboro College 4-2 this past Sunday. The Cougar attack is led by Agustin Jaraba who has scored twice on three shots while four other players have scored once on the year. Also, Max Gaudry leads Averett in shots with a total of eight.

Up Next
The ‘Cats will play next Tuesday at UNC Greensboro, a team that is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coach’s Top 25 Poll, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
