Annual National Night Out
DAVIDSON, NC – Town residents are invited to join the Davidson Police Department and local community organizations to celebrate National Night Out (NNO). This year’s local event will be held at Roosevelt Wilson Park (420 Griffith Street) on Tuesday, October 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. On-street parking will be available yet limited; residents are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to the event.
National Night Out (NNO) is an annual crime prevention and community-building event sponsored by the Davidson Police Department to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-resident partnerships, and neighborhood cohesiveness.
This event will offer hamburgers and hot dogs along with sides and an ice cream truck for the community to enjoy. Tents and seating will be available as well. Games, including a football throw, basketball hoop, and a scavenger hunt will be set up around the park. Police Chief Davidson will be in the dunk tank, and music will be performed by Mayor Rusty Knox, the Bailey Sweet River Band, Multiply Church- Lake Norman, and more.
“Come join the fun as we celebrate another annual National Night Out event in town,” said Davidson Police Chief Kimber Davidson. “The local NNO event was started in 2006 at the request of and with the support of the Davidson African American Coalition. The vision of this organization is for residents to come together, break bread, and find common ground. Our community is stronger and better for their efforts to bring the us together all those years ago.”
A variety of community groups will be present including the Davidson Public Library, the Ada Jenkins Center, U.S. Coast Guard, local Cub Scouts, and more. The Davidson Police Department will distribute information about the Watch for Me NC initiative and Pedestrian Safety Zones to educate residents about pedestrian safety efforts in the community. The Davidson Police Department looks forward to partnering with event sponsors and resident volunteers to plan this annual event.
