Davidson students, families, and community members will participate in the International ‘Walk to School Day’ with others from around the globe on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

This annual event is organized by the Town of Davidson in partnership with the North Carolina Safe Routes to School Program which seeks to raise awareness for pedestrian safety, environmental conservation, and the importance of physical activity.

The Town of Davidson is committed to being a pedestrian and bicycle friendly community. Town staff would like to encourage drivers to use extra caution as students will be walking and riding to school with parents and caregivers along sidewalks, low-volume streets, and greenways. In addition, the Town reminds pedestrians to utilize the crosswalks and be mindful of designated pedestrian safety zones. Davidson Police officers and community volunteers will be stationed at key intersections throughout town to assist with directing school traffic.

“I love to hear about our local schools engaging their communities with pedestrian-themed activities during the school day! As a town, we encourage walking and biking as means of personal mobility. Numerous studies show walking has a positive effect on the child’s mental wellbeing.” said Davidson Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Willis. “
