Davidson Branch Library: Teen Manga Mashup

Sep 28 @ 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Davidson Branch Library

Been reading any manga or watching any anime lately? Come share with us what you’re reading and watching! We’re not a regular book club. We’re an “UnBook Club!” What’s an Unbook Club, you ask? We don’t all agree to read the same things. (After all, some like shojo more than shonen, or like the mecha genre more than the magical girls type. Some might even like both!) Here we all take turns sharing what we’re currently reading, give and ask for recommendations, and share our love of manga! We play games, watch anime, make crafts, and hang out. Join us every last Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. in the community room.

Looking for some manga to read? Check out our catalog and place a hold, or come explore our graphic novel section in the branch. Find a link to our catalog by clicking here.

Book release: Made in Main – Shawn Samuelson Henry grew up in Hanover, New Hampshire, where trips to the library were as exciting as those to the Dartmouth Skiway. After earning degrees from Bucknell University, Harvard University and the University of Wyoming, she taught English to teenagers for more than a decade. She is an avid playwright whose plays have won competitions and been produced across the United States and Canada. Shawn currently lives in Davidson, North Carolina, with her husband and three children.

ABOUT THE BOOK – It’s as if they are living in a country music song. When the mill closes, Edgewater’s economy and hope collapse. Hunter’s father starts drinking and becomes an embarrassment and liability to Hunter, who’s trying to balance his high-maintenance girlfriend with life on the basketball court. Luna, attending in-person school for the first time in her 17 years, has no friends and hides behind her hoodie to escape her peers’ vicious ridicule.
