Wirshing Joins Davidson Baseball Staff

by | Sep 28, 2023

Aidan Wirshing has joined the Davidson baseball coaching staff as director of player development, head coach Rucker Taylor announced Thursday.

Wirshing most recently served in a similar role for two years at Gardner-Webb.

“Aidan is a great addition to our program,” said Taylor. “His background and experiences will help us dramatically as we continue to try to recruit and develop to the highest levels. His knowledge and personality will be a tremendous asset, and we are glad he has decided to join us.”

In his role, Wirshing will work with the Rapsodo and Trackman analytical programs to track and implement data. He’ll handle all practice and in-game video and serve as the team’s coordinator with ‘Cats Stats.

“I would like to thank Coach Taylor for giving me the opportunity to join his staff,” said Wirshing. “Davidson has so much to offer, from its amazing academics to its beautiful and vibrant community. I look forward to building lasting and meaningful relationships with these young men and helping them achieve their goals on and off the field. I am very excited to help the baseball program and its student-athletes grow every single day.”

Wirshing earned an English degree from UC Santa Barbara in 2020 and earned his master’s in sports management from Gardner-Webb in 2023.

Prior to working at Gardner-Webb, he was an assistant coach/director of analytics at Santa Barbara City College in 2021. He served as the student manager at UC Santa Barbara in 2020.

Wirshing has spent multiple summers coaching as well, primarily in the Northwoods League, where he is slated to serve as the field manager/head coach of the Kenosha Kingfish in 2024.

In 2023, he led the Minnesota Mud Puppies and coached in the Northwoods All-Star Game. In 2020 and 2021, he was an assistant for the Waterloo Bucks, who won the Minnesota-Iowa Pod Championships.

In 2022, Wirshing coached in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Orleans Firebirds.

As a player, Wirshing played two seasons at Santa Barbara City College and was part of two Western State North Conference titles. He was a two-time Honor Roll and 2018 All-State Academic Team pick.
