TAMPA, Fla. – Highlighted by a seven-under 65 in his second round, Davidson’s Will Davis sits in second place after day one of the 2023 USF Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida.

A junior from Jacksonville, Fla., Davis opened with a 69 before firing a season-low in the afternoon, which featured eight birdies and just one dropped shot. The 2022 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year will enter tomorrow’s third and final round just one back of USF’s Sam Nicholson (-11).

After signing for a 73 in round one, the Wildcats’ Alex Heffner (-4) bounced back with a five-under 67 to climb into a tie for 14th out of 79 competitors.

Davidson (566 | -10) shook a slow start, responding with an eight-under 280 on its second 18 moving into fourth place alone, 11 shots off the pace.

Stetson (-21) leads the 14-team field by four shots over Lamar (-17) and is six clear of the tournament host.

The Wildcats’ Joshua Stewart (E) and individual competitor Davis Sayman (E) are tied for 31st, while Will Tharin and Benjamin Newfield are five and six-over, respectively.
