Davidson Community Players and Cain Center Announce Inaugural Collaboration

by | Oct 17, 2023

Frozen Jr. will kick off two-show 2024 partnership

Davidson Community Players (DCP), one of Charlotte’s top theatre producing organizations, will mount two of its 2024 shows at Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius. This highly anticipated announcement pairs the Lake Norman area’s most prolific content producer with its most state-of-the-art content presenter.

DCP’s first show at Cain Center will be Disney’s Frozen Jr., which will run from January 25-27, 2024. Adapted from the beloved 2013 movie, this one-hour version of the Broadway musical will enchant families across the region.

Frozen Jr. will be DCP’s first entry in their educational Connie Company series in 2024 and their most ambitious youth musical to date. Starring a cast all under the age of 18, the enchanting story of Elsa and Anna will be a wintry blast with all of the hit songs, from “Let It Go” to “For the First Time in Forever.”

DCP will then return to the Cain Center 11 months later for their annual holiday show. Lauren Gunderson’s Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley will run from December 5-15, 2024 and will round out the company’s 5-show adult Main Stage Season. One of the most produced plays of the past several years, Pemberley continues the story of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, this time with the bookish Mary at the center. Fans of cozy Hallmark movies and spicy series such as Bridgerton will cherish this romantic holiday spectacle.

DCP Executive Director Steve Kaliski says, “The collaboration between Cain Center and our organization is the no-brainer that our patrons have been waiting for. We have one of the finest theatre spaces in the state right in our backyard, and we’re thrilled to now be laying the groundwork for regular DCP programming there.”

He continues, “These two plays, Frozen Jr. and Christmas at Pemberley, perfectly capture the range of DCP’s offerings. From crowd-pleasing family entertainment to professional-caliber contemporary plays for adults, we do a little bit of everything, and we can’t wait to open up our offerings to the broader audience that the Cain Center can deliver. Maybe ‘Winter at the Cain’ can be a recurring thing.”

Cain Center for the Arts’ Executive Director Justin Dionne notes “It’s been a goal of Cain Center for the Arts since its inception to become a valued resource and trusted partner for artists and arts organizations in our region. Hosting the Davidson Community Players aligns with our core values, and we are so grateful to Steve, his staff, and the Board of Directors of Davidson Community Players for deciding to bring their fabulous productions to our stage.”

Tickets will be on sale soon for Frozen Jr. at cainarts.org. DCP subscribers will also have first dibs at priority seats for these two productions when 2024 packages become available later this fall.
