Statement from Mayor Rusty Knox Regarding Norfolk Southern and the Red Line Commuter Rail
In response to the recent notice that Norfolk Southern’s consideration of selling or leasing tracks to northern Mecklenburg County for commuter rail and the larger issue of the ongoing Red Line Study, Town of Davidson’s Mayor Rusty Knox has this to say:
“Finding resolution to the Red Line issue in North Mecklenburg is crucial to the effectiveness of the larger transit plan. I am hopeful that we are getting closer to a point where residents of Davidson will have an additional public transit option available to them. Our town prioritizes all modes of travel and encourages alternative ways for folks to get around, we embrace non-vehicular methods of transportation.
“We’re cautiously optimistic about progress being made through conversations between the City of Charlotte and Norfolk Southern. Until we learn more from the City of Charlotte and have a tangible agreement from Norfolk Southern, we’ll remain hopeful and have no further comment at this time.”
