ReadDavidson and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Announce Selections for 2024 Community Read

by | Dec 6, 2023

ReadDavidson is an annual Town-wide reading initiative and partnership between the Town of Davidson, the Davidson Public Library, Main Street Books, Davidson College, and Davidson’s local avid readers. The program started in 2007 and since then has established the ReadDavidson committee who encourages community members to read selected books and attend book-related events intended to make the titles come to life.

ReadDavidson is thrilled to partner with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (CML) again in 2024 to support and enhance its annual Community Read initiative. Through exciting programming aimed at all age groups, the partnership encourages the Davidson community to read (or listen to) the book, talk about it, attend library programs, and celebrate a shared love of reading.

“The Community Read is designed to bring people together to talk about the selected titles as well as form a community of readers and learners,” said Marie Harris, Davidson Public Library Branch Manager and ReadDavidson committee member. “The library anticipates exciting and interactive events built around this year’s theme of ‘Food as a Connector’.”

“I am thrilled we are able to continue the partnership between ReadDavidson and Community Read,” notes Town of Davidson Communications Director Jessica Eggimann Johnson. “It’s a fantastic collaboration, providing programming for Davidson residents and the opportunity for our community to be a part of the county-wide conversation thanks to the reach of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.”

ReadDavidson and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library are pleased to announce the following book selections, all chosen while keeping the theme of “Food as a Connector” and goal of entertainment for all ages in mind:

  • Adult (Fiction): Buttermilk Graffiti by Edward Lee
  • Young Adult (Fiction): Somewhere Between Bitter and Sweet by Laekan Zea Kemp
  • Middle Grades (Fiction): Measuring Up by Lily LaMotte and Ann Xu
  • Children’s Picture Book: Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora
